Son Altesse

The name Frangipani comes from the Italian nobleman, Marquis Frangipani who created a perfume used to scent gloves in the 16th century when the frangipani flower was discovered. Its natural perfume reminded people of the scented gloves, and so the flower was called Frangipani.

It is a tropical plant to our Mauritius Island. It is native to warm tropical areas. It prefers to grow in full sun. With at least 6 hours of sun a day will flower far better and it goes on flowering.

FRANGIPANI flowers are known for their unique fragrant clusters of colorful, bright, waxy and long lasting flowers. Frangipani flowers are dried for approximately 3-4 days, and then distilled to produce essential oils which are the main ingredient of the perfume.

The flowers of the frangipani are highly scented at night in order to lure sphinx moths to pollinate them. The flowers yield no nectar, however, and simply trick their pollinators. The moths inadvertently pollinate them by transferring pollen from flower to flower in their fruitless search for nectar.
